Dr. Parul Goel Joins BNA NeuroSpine and Rehab

Dr. Goel

Barrow Neurosurgical Associates (BNA) is pleased to announce the arrival of Parul Goel, M.D., to the clinical team at the BNA NeuroSpine and Rehab Center in Phoenix.  Originally from Cincinnati, Dr. Goel brings with her a unique skill set spanning the specialties of Internal Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Anesthesia.

After securing her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and completing her internship in Internal Medicine at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, Dr. Goel went on to complete her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, and an Interventional Pain Management and Spine Fellowship in Anesthesia at the University of North Carolina Medical Center in Chapel Hill.

When asked why she chose to pursue Pain Management, Dr. Goel comments, “Interventional Pain Management is an extension of what I was working to achieve in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  As a physician who is able to diagnose the source of my patient’s pain, recommend treatment plans and provide directed intervention when necessary, I can offer my patients more treatment options.”

At the NeuroSpine Center, Dr. Goel will employ interventional techniques for the treatment of conditions such as spinal stenosis, discogenic pain, degenerative disc disease, SIJ pain, facet mediated pain, and post laminectomy pain syndrome, among others.  Some of the treatment techniques she may use include epidurals, sacroiliac (SI) joint injections, medial branch nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation of nerves, spinal cord stimulator trials, and peripheral joint injections.  She is qualified to work on both the cervical and lumbar spine.

According to Raj M. Singh, M.D., Medical Director of the Center, “Dr. Goel’s breadth of experience and unique expertise make her a perfect fit for the NeuroSpine Center.  Her background as a physiatrist, combined with interventional anesthesia training, allows her to take a comprehensive approach to pain management by incorporating physical therapy, medication management, and interventional techniques.”

Adds Robert F. Spetzler, President and Chairman of BNA, “When we envisioned the Center, we decided we would build a facility that would serve as a model of excellence in spine care. Everything from the scope of services we offer to the imaging technologies we use, from the equipment in our gym to the quality of our staff, must be of the highest quality to meet our high standards.  Having an interventional pain specialist of Dr. Goel’s caliber on our team is a testament to our continued commitment to excellence.”

Dr. Goel is looking forward to her move to Phoenix from Chapel Hill.  She and her husband (along with their daughter) are joining quite a few members of their extended family in Phoenix, including her sister, who is also a physician in the Phoenix area.
